"Your journal stays on your device. Only your own backup copy and what you choose to share travel through Apple's cloud."
Reverie Mood is a privacy-first mood journal by Reverie Archive. Your emotional reflections are yours alone. Everything you write, record, sketch, and feel stays on your device, and in your own private iCloud Drive while the iCloud Mirror is on (see iCloud & Backups below). It reaches another person only if you explicitly choose to share it with a friend through the Shared Cove.
The vast majority of Reverie Mood lives on your device (the iCloud Mirror, described below, can also keep a private copy of your backups, photos, doodles, and voice memos in your own iCloud Drive):
Two features in The Quiet Room send data beyond your device — and only through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit). We operate no servers of our own. (The iCloud Mirror, which keeps your own backup copy in your private iCloud Drive, is described under iCloud & Backups.)
Exchange handwritten-style letters with a close friend. You create a private cove by sending your friend an invitation, either a QR code or a link, and letters drift between you like messages in bottles. Anyone who has the invitation can use it, so send it only to the person you mean to invite.
Encrypted by Apple in transit and at rest
Letters and whisper replies are stored in iCloud (CloudKit), in the space shared between you and the friend you invite, and that is how they reach each other. Apple's servers encrypt them in transit and at rest. They are not end-to-end encrypted. We operate no servers and have no way to read them.
Display names, timestamps, delivery status, emoji reactions, and opt-in mood snapshots are stored in iCloud in the same way. A letter can also carry a small photo stamp, a picture you choose or take for that letter. If Mood sharing is on for that cove, it also carries a small tag with the mood you logged that day, which your friend sees beside the letter. These travel with the letter and are stored in iCloud like the rest. Reverie Mood never reads your real name or Apple ID; the only name in a cove is the display name you type.
Keepsakes. If you save a stamp from a letter to your Keepsakes, a copy is also stored in your own private iCloud: the stamp picture, a short excerpt of the letter, and the cove's name and emoji. Only your Apple account can read it, and removing the keepsake removes it.
Gentle daily intentions you share with a friend — synced through the same iCloud zone as your Shared Cove. Ritual data includes the category (e.g. "walking", "reading"), duration, and daily check-ins with optional short notes. This data is stored the same way and is not end-to-end encrypted.
You decide what's shared:
Reverie Mood offers an optional premium tier. Here's what you should know:
Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions.Reverie Mood uses Apple's Standard EULA for all in-app purchases.
Reverie Mood offers an in-app backup to your private iCloud Drive, called the iCloud Mirror. On a new install it starts switched on, and the first time you have a photo, doodle, or voice memo to keep, the app tells you so; you can switch it off at any time in Preferences, under Backup Manager. A phone that already had Reverie Mood keeps the choice it had, which was off until you switched it on. The mirror copies your backups and your photos, doodles, and voice memos into a folder named Reverie Mood in your iCloud Drive, which you can also open in the Files app. These copies are stored in your personal Apple account and are not accessible to us.
When you delete a photo, doodle, or voice memo from your journal, the app removes its copy from the mirror the next time it can reach iCloud. Making a photo smaller on your phone, or keeping an entry as text only, frees room on the phone and leaves the full-size copy in the mirror.
Dispatch a Copy. In Preferences you can make a file of your journal, with the words only or with the pictures too, and send it wherever you choose, such as Files, Mail, or AirDrop. The app makes the file on your phone. We never receive it, and it goes only where you send it.
If you have device-level iCloud Backup enabled, Reverie Mood data may also be included, except photos, doodles, and voice memos, which the app keeps out of device backups. You can manage this at Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Backups.
You're always in control:
Reverie Mood is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Reverie Mood is not a medical app. It's a personal wellness journal. If you're experiencing mental health concerns, please reach out to a qualified professional.
Reverie Mood uses Apple's native frameworks — SwiftData, AVFoundation, CloudKit, and StoreKit — which are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. No other third-party services are used.
We may update this policy occasionally. Changes are reflected with an updated date at the top of this page. The May 2026 edition added Reverie+ subscription coverage and Shoreline Rituals, and restructured the Quiet Room section. The October 2026 edition corrects how Shared Cove letters are protected: they are encrypted by Apple in transit and at rest, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. It also spells out what travels with a letter (a photo stamp, and a mood tag when Mood sharing is on), the Keepsakes copy in your private iCloud, and what happens when you leave a cove, which depends on who created it. The October 26 edition describes the iCloud Mirror as it now works (it starts on for a new install, shows in the Files app, and removes a picture's copy when you delete the picture) and describes Dispatch a Copy.
